Words by: Word Nerd Photo by: Ivan Čorić

A seasoned traveller like you will know this already.

The COVID-19 pandemic has completely changed the way we travel. It’s changed the world.

But you already know this. You’ve done your research. You know what you want.

You just want to get away.

A few weeks, a month even.

And really, who can blame you?

Because waking up each morning surrounded by the same four walls is just not healthy.

It’s suffocating.

It’s debilitating.

It’s soul-destroying.

And all you seem to be doing is replaying that glorious holiday you had in Croatia a few years back. It seems like a lifetime ago now.

What you’d give to go back.

What would you do just to breathe in fresh, unpolluted air each morning? And it’s not even about the fresh air, really, but more about what it represents.

A fresh start. Freedom. Hope.

Trust me, I’ve been there.

But you’re still hesitant, right? And understandably so. There are restrictions in place everywhere.

A million questions are running through your mind:

  • When will this end?
  • Can I travel to Croatia in 2021?
  • Is Croatia safe for tourists?
  • What are the Croatian travel restrictions?
  • When will this end?
  • Can I travel to Croatia from the US?
  • How to stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic?
  • When will this end?

And while the answers to all your questions won’t be found here – because nobody knows when this will all end – I come bearing great news.

Yes! You can travel to Croatia in 2021.

Yes! Croatia is safe for tourists.

Yes! You can travel to Croatia from the US – and pretty much any other country in the world.

In fact, I know where you can go to achieve your Croatian holiday oasis.

Far from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Far from the crowds.

Far from the pandemic.

Your secluded summer getaway awaits in Pridraga.

TOP REASONS WHY PRIDRAGA IS THE PERFECT CROATIAN HOLIDAY DESTINATION DURING THE PANDEMIC

YOUR PRIVACY IS GUARANTEED

Did you know that Croatia is brimming with uncovered gems?

But as we have seen with other picturesque coastal towns in the area, some of the brightest treasures run the risk of becoming spoiled by swarms of tourists.

Fortunately, for those of you that are crowd-shy, there are some nooks remaining in this corner of the earth.

The tiny town of Pridraga is a brilliant example.

Everything you want from Croatia – the hot beaches, pristine sea, secret escapes and rugged landscapes – can be found in Pridraga.

In fact, Pridraga is the perfect getaway spot during the pandemic.

If you’re looking to avoid busier towns and cities, you will find plenty of places within and around Pridraga to soak up the well-deserved peace and tranquillity you so desire.

ULTIMATE EXCLUSIVITY

Before you stumbled upon this article, I bet that the idea of a holiday during the COVID pandemic was an unattainable dream.

And it’s true for many locations around the world that have lockdown procedures heading in various speeds and directions.

However, Croatia, and Pridraga, in particular, are in a very positive place.

Frankly, here in Pridraga, a villa holiday is the number one choice for visitors.

Why?

Simple. When it comes to safety, a villa offers optimal security for both you and your family.

And also - you’re not going to let a pandemic lower your standards, are you?

Didn’t think so.

So why not take advantage of the situation and enjoy lazy days by the pool with a cocktail in hand? Top that off with a delicious meal, watching the sun set with your favourite people, drink in hand.

What could be better?

MOUTH-WATERING INGREDIENTS FOR AN ORGANIC FEAST

The food you eat while on your getaway reflects different ethnicities, cultures and traditions – and there is nothing better than eating a mind-blowing meal whilst on holiday.

Unfortunately, we have become all too accustomed to eating processed and fast foods due to their availability and convenience.

What’s worse, all of the ingredients suddenly start to taste the same.

Bland.

Dull.

Uninspiring.

Did you know that geographically, Pridraga is situated in a perfect location for agricultural prosperity?

It is rich in family farms, promoting the nutritional value of food and preserving cultural and historical continuity spanning back generations.

This means that your meals will suddenly consist of fresh produce. Every ingredient succulent, flavoursome – and comes with its own aroma.

Can you imagine?

THE TIES THAT BIND YOUR FAMILY TOGETHER

Leigh Hunt once said that travelling in the company of those we love is home in motion.

With that said, it’s important to remember to take every opportunity to spend precious time with loved ones.

Have real conversations.

Enjoy authentic moments.

Because in the end, it isn’t about where you’ve been or what you’ve seen.

Quite simply, the secret to the greatest legacy you can leave your family lies in the priceless memories you’ve curated.

No matter what you prefer, winding down at the beach or an adrenaline-filled getaway, Pridraga will fulfil your greatest desires, creating memories of a lifetime.

Did you know that Pridraga boasts the privilege of merging three Croatian seas?

And boy, is it a sight to see.

For example, Vrulja, Čuskijaš and Bok are very popular family beaches.

Rašovka Beach is preposterously good looking, adorned with white pebbles and translucent water. On top of that, the shallow beach is perfect for children, big and small.

The ideal family seashore is accompanied by looming trees that provide respite from the sweltering summer sun.

Hungry?

Escape the scorching rays by visiting Hablando Garden and Grill - an almost secret garden - and satisfy your hunger.

Or simply enjoy a delicious and refreshing cocktail or two in the shade.

You’re on holiday mode now.

Are you bringing your four-legged friends along for the ride as well?

There are plenty of wild beaches in the vicinity where your beloved pets can run freely and enjoy their own magical holiday moments in Pridraga.

A win-win for all.

Explore the best of nature by taking a bike ride through Pridraga, using the bike lane that runs throughout.

This summer you’ll even get the chance of renting an e-bike at the camp site in the beautiful nearby town of Novigrad.

To top things off, adrenaline junkies will be pleased to know their holiday experience can include activities like hiking, bungee jumping, white water rafting – and many others – just a stone’s throw away.

EXPERIENCE CULTURAL DELIGHTS

Of course, one of the biggest highlights of travelling to a new location is experiencing the ideas and customs of particular people.

From religion, architecture, art, language, food and downtime, culture is a constantly evolving phenomenon.

The truth is, the more we learn about other cultures, the more we learn about ourselves.

Did you know that Pridraga is home to a long line of watch smiths? It’s true. The most well-known working watch smiths in Zadar are originally from Pridraga.

Organic food and beach-side bars are just two elements of the food culture here in Pridraga.

For traditional delicacies, make sure to visit Konoba Maslina and indulge in meals under the bell. Be warned though, the food is so good, you will have to make a reservation a few days in advance if you want to find a spot.

Batur Benz has an infamous mouth-watering wood-oven baked pizza you do not want to miss.

The St. Martin church in Pridraga has always played a central role in the gathering of locals.

This church, built in the 5th or 6th century is preserved in its original form. History buffs will be pleased to know it is one of the most important of early Christian architecture. Not far from there are the remnants of the church of St. Michael, built on the remains of an ancient Roman villa in the 9th century.

Every Croatian town and village, no matter how big or small has a celebration for that particular place. For Pridraga it is the holiday of St. Martin, or as Croatians refer to it, “Martinje” on the 11th of November.

I cannot talk about traditional culture without mentioning the cultural-artistic society Luzarica. After the devastation of the Homeland War, there was a need to bring the residents of Pridraga together once more.

So, it was only natural that a folklore group soon formed.

KUD Luzarica not only brings people together but preserves long-established customs, honours folk costumes and celebrates Pridraga’s traditional music scene.

If you want to see a sneak peek of what Croatian culture resembled once upon a time, a performance from KUD Luzarica is not one to be missed.

TRAVEL TO CROATIA IN 2021 – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

CAN I TRAVEL TO CROATIA?

Yes. Make no mistake about it; entry into Croatia has simplified since April 1, 2021.

There is no lockdown here at the moment, and cafes and restaurants have recently opened up to the public once more.

So, if you’re wondering, can I travel to Croatia from the US or the UK – yes, you can.

You can enter Croatia with a negative COVID-19 test result that isn’t older than 48 hours. This includes PCR and rapid antigen tests.

You can also enter with proof of vaccination, which is valid two weeks after the second vaccination.

Lastly, those with a medical certificate confirming that you have recovered from COVID-19 that isn’t more than 180 days old will also be able to enter. This is not valid for children younger than seven.

If you’re coming in from countries outside the EU or EEA, you will need evidence that you have paid for your accommodation in full.

If you haven’t completed a PCR test in your home country, you can do so upon entering Croatia but will need to self-isolate until your results come back.

That doesn’t seem so bad if you’re in one of Pridraga’s many luxurious villas, right?

Those entering Croatia from Zanzibar, India, Brazil and South Africa will need to have a negative PCR test that isn’t older than the permitted 48 hours but will still need to self-isolate for two weeks.

People coming in from Australia, New Zealand, Rwanda, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Uruguay, Thailand, China, Macao, and Hong Kong will not need to present a negative PCR test nor self-isolate.

As the entrance rules constantly change with the evolving situation, feel free to find out up-to-date information here.

IS CROATIA SAFE FOR TOURISTS?

You bet!

Think about it. Croatia is a small, underpopulated country. Additionally, it has plenty of open spaces and fewer crowds than surrounding nations.

While I believe that there will be an influx of tourists this year, the numbers still won’t reach pre-covid times. This means fewer lines, traffic jams, crowds—a bonus for anyone entering the country.

Lower prices and less people on the beach in Pridraga means for a more relaxed holiday.

What more could you ask for?

It is also estimated that around a third of the population has contracted the virus since the beginning of the pandemic. An increasing amount of vaccinations means that the situation is slowly but surely, improving.

CROATIA TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

In addition to the above measures for entry, it’s important to remember that every region in Croatia has particular travel guidelines.

Know that there are limitations placed on the number of people allowed in enclosed spaces. This includes supermarkets, cinemas, churches, restaurants, cafes, etc.

You also must stay within your social circle of ten people at most within two households at private gatherings.

Well, for now, at least.

Purchasing alcoholic products is not an option from 10 pm until 6 am.

Any events or gatherings are currently limited to 25 people, and all public events need to end by 10 pm.

DO I NEED TO WEAR A FACE MASK ON MY CROATIAN HOLIDAY?

Yes, masks need to be worn in public spaces where you cannot keep a distance of at least 2 meters indoors and 1.5 meters outdoors.

This includes:

Supermarkets

Public transport

Malls

Pharmacies

Government buildings

Hospitals

Any commercial or service businesses

When using public spaces such as cafes and restaurants, you need to wear a mask to and from your table. However, when seated, you can take it off.

WHAT BUSINESSES ARE OPEN IN CROATIA RIGHT NOW?

Pretty much all stores, including convenience and food stores, pharmacies and shopping malls, are open. The same goes for services such as hair salons, banks, libraries, etc.

There are, however, restrictions when it comes to the number of people allowed inside.

It can mean that you will need to wait before being permitted to enter. Don’t worry, as this doesn’t happen often, and even if it does, you won’t have to wait long.

Petrol or gas stations are open as usual. National and nature parks, as well as beaches, are open.

Tours and excursions are generally allowed, although they might have special regulations that you need to follow.

Cafes and restaurants are also opened, although they have restrictions when it comes to closing times.

Public transport is currently running at 40% capacity. Masks are mandatory for any travellers and operators.

TIPS ON HOW TO STAY SAFE DURING THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC IN CROATIA

You can never be too cautious when planning your travels to Croatia. Follow these tips to stay safe:

  • Book any tickets and use online check-in to avoid queues
  • Be sure to respect social distance measures at security checks, luggage drop-off, boarding and luggage claim
  • Remember that food or beverages may not be available onboard for health measures
  • You may be requested to board through back doors on public transport
  • When you can, rent a car instead of using public transport
  • Plan activities in advance
  • Try to eat outside at restaurants
  • Rent a camping van or RV and head to one of many campsites in Croatia
  • Enjoy the outdoors
  • Rent private accommodation instead of heading to busy hotels
  • Choose smaller villages and towns for your accommodation instead of major cities

PRIDRAGA - A SECURE AND SECLUDED SUMMER DESTINATION

Let’s be honest. This pandemic has truly been a travellers nightmare for over a year now.

Countries are constantly changing restrictions depending on the situation at hand.

Admittedly, the tide is changing, and with more people getting vaccinated, Croatia is experiencing a massive drop in positive coronavirus cases.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, tourists are starting to flock to Croatia. Needless to say, there will be plenty of overcrowded towns scattered along the Adriatic.

And who can blame them?

You cannot deny that Croatia is a majestic destination.

One of enchanting, untouched beauty.

Sensational delicacies.

Distinctive culture.

But there are still hidden nooks and crannies within this coastline awaiting the smart traveller.

A safe, undiscovered destination for you and your family.

The secret gem that is known only by a select few - Pridraga.

If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it.

Your window of opportunity is here.

Right here, right now.

Don’t miss it.
